'Transformers' taps Voight

Jon Voight has joined the cast of Michael Bay's big-budget actioner "The Transformers: The Movie."
The DreamWorks/Paramount live-action production starts lensing later this month, with release scheduled for July 4, 2007.

Voight is the latest actor confirmed by the studio in a cast that has received a lot of attention online. While a casting list recently leaked onto the Internet, many of the rumored names are not likely to end up in the film.

A source close to the production said Josh Duhamel, Bernie Mac, John Turturro, Megan Fox and John Robinson are expected to round out the cast. Travis Van Winkle and Shia LeBeouf have already been announced.

Budgeted well north of $100 million, "Transformers" is based on the comicbook, cartoon and Hasbro toy line hugely popular in the 1980s. Story centers on the central saga of the Autobots vs. the Decepticons.

Tom DeSanto, Don Murphy and Par-based Lorenzo di Bonaventura are producing the film. Steven Spielberg and Hasbro's Brian Goldner are exec producers. Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci penned the screenplay.

Voight recently wrapped shooting "Pride and Glory" with Colin Farrell and Edward Norton for New Line Cinema.
